Artist's
Statement
I have always
had a need to create. When I discovered clay as a
teenager, I abandoned all other art materials. I
knew clay was the media for me. I really feel that
working with clay is my gift in life. Crating and
sharing my art gives me immense pleasure, and has
enabled me to make a living for over twenty years.
The need to create pieces that are meaningful, and
independent from the bowls and the business and commercially
successful pieces, arose in the 1990's. I began an
exploration of my past, which is a continual
journey. My sculpture is very personal and it is
difficult to express my feelings about it with
words. I guess I just want the clay to speak for
me. Exist on its own with no words needed to
explain it.

Bio
Cynthia Williams was
born in 1958, in a small town in upstate N.Y.
Raised on a farm, nature, animals and flowers have
always found a way into her work, and represent the
whimsy apparent in many of her pieces today.
She was taught as a child to 'see as she was told' which
was in conflict with what she was actually feeling and
seeing. This resulted in trouble differentiating
between reality and fantasy. She ended up denying
reality and living in her fantasies and
imagination. This quality has nerved her well in
her artistic life.
Contemporary ceramicist and sculptor, Cynthia is most
renowned for Clay Creations, a collaborative endeavor
with her husband Art. Cynthia and Art are both
self-taught, and have been creating and selling their
refreshing original pottery baskets since their marriage
in 1979. The William's unique work is sold in many
fine galleries and arts and crafts shows throughout the
country. The artists moved from Granville, N.Y. to
make their home in Palm Coast, FL in 1999.
