Artists Bio & Statement



"My hand-wrapped wire metal sculptures of mythological beings... is a unique art form through which I use modern materials to depict ideas from ancient religions in a dynamic, unique and energy-packed fashion."

OBJECTIVE

To obtain a position where I can be strategic, creative, motivating, challenged, challenging, and effective in meeting and exceeding the goals of the organization, while making a difference in the lives of others. 

EMPLOYMENT

Freelance writer, 1997-Present:
St. Petersburg Times: I write a variety of articles including art show reviews, artist interviews, and the outdoor show previews. My articles are published once a week, primarily in the Weekend, Sunday Arts and Arts and Entertainment/2B sections. I reported directly to Mary Ann Marger, Times Art Critic. I also do book reviews for the Perspectives section.

In addition I have written for numerous publications, including Bayside News and Pug Talk Magazine. Formerly, I wrote for the University of South Floridas Oracle and Crows Nest student newspapers.

I am an experienced creative writer. I won a prize for short fiction for my story The Decision in the 1999 edition of the Omnibus Literary Magazine. I presented my work The Books for the 2001 Fairly Lillith performing and literary arts section.

Artist, 1995-Present. 
Created and developed an award-winning art business. I create, market, and sell found object art and wrapped wire metal statues depicting characters, gods, and creatures taken from world mythology. My artistic objective is to combine modern materials and ancient subject matter to cultivate the experiences of ancient world cultures.

Artist in Residence, 2001: 
Bay Pines Veterans Administration, St. Petersburg.

Workshop Presenter, 2001: 
Dali Museum, St. Petersburg. Wired on Venus workshop focused on creating wire metal statues in the goddess image. I also presented views comparing Dalis interpretation of mythological symbols to their Roman predecessors.

Curator, 2001-2002. 
Whimsical Winter Scenes and Frosted Fantasies, Octagon Arts Center, Clearwater. I selected a panel of artists to present art reflecting metaphorical and literal representations of winter themes.

Additionally, I have won numerous awards, including Best 3-D Artwork at a national art show held in Atlanta.

Guest Presenter, 1999-Present.
Summer 2001, Guest lecturer, Dali Museum. Comparison of the Venus Image: Dali and Roman Mythology.

Adjunct Professor, St. Petersburg College, 2002-Present
I teach Humanities and World Religions classes. As an educator, I am committed to educating and exposing modern students to ancient themes, arts, and cultures. I utilize
a variety of techniques in teaching my students to understand the past in order to more fully interpret the present and future. Included in my classes are guest lectures, research papers, and projects utilizing student observation and site visitation.

Creative Clay, 2000-2002: 
I teach 3-dimensional art, creative wire, and metal wire to developmentally and physically challenged adult students art at Creative Clay Studios, a non-profit outreach program.

COMPUTER SKILLS

I have worked with Compaq, Kodac, Packert Bell, IBM, and MacIntosh
computer systems.

I have established and built my own award-winning web sites.

I am experienced in the following software programs: Microsoft Works, 4.0 and higher, Word 97,Access 97, Windows 3.1, 95, and 98, Telnet, Notis, Power Point, Excel, LUIS and Corel Word Perfect.

During the summer, the Dali Museum sponsored my workshop,  "Wired on Venus," creating wire metal statues.
